The Sierra Vista Cougar Cubs would like to take you on a scenic tour of our wonderful school…

As you drive down Corona Avenue, in the heart of Norco, you may have to slow down and wait for the rooster, chicken and the new babies to cross the road. The friendly smiles of our 380 students, their parents and our 48 staff will impart a warm feeling as you make your way onto campus.

If you arrive in the morning, you will see our students out on the playground running laps for the 100 Mile Club, a program which encourages students to stay active both physically and mentally. The children receive a stick for each lap they run, with the goal of receiving a T-shirt at 25 miles and ultimately, a gold medal for running 100 miles over the course of the school year.

As you tour classrooms, you will be welcomed by a friendly teacher and happy students. In each room you will find a focus on engaging students through the concepts of “Learning Together” and “Personal Response.” Students are provided opportunities to work cooperatively during lessons and connect the new learning to what they already know. Lessons designed to increase student thinking and problem solving are being used as we slowly make the transition to the Common Core State Standards. Products of student work are proudly displayed on the walls, and they are eager to show you their work and tell you what they learned while doing the activity. During your tour, you will notice students and staff demonstrating our PRIDE values. They are Prepared, show Respect, Integrity, are Determined problem solvers, and show Empathy. Students are rewarded for showing Cougar Cub PRIDE at school and will be happy to share their PRIDE slips.

As morning turns into afternoon you will find our Kindergarten through sixth grade students busy practicing academic and social-emotional skills. Our kindergarten students are included in a full day program.

We know that all children love their school and at Sierra Vista, we do too. We love the rural setting and the friendly community that surrounds our campus. Our goats and horses make our school a unique and wonderful place to learn and grow. We invite you to come, visit and take in the qualities that make Sierra Vista a school where students thrive.
